Shawcity was founded by husband and wife David and Sheila Chapman, whose shared vision and dedication laid the foundations for a business built on expertise, trust and long-term customer relationships.
Shawcity became an affiliate member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), reinforcing its commitment to occupational hygiene, industry best practice and supporting safer working environments.
Shawcity developed the MVI mercury vapour indicator, the first mercury instrument to use dual-beam UV absorption technology. This provided a viable alternative to traditional gold-film detection, which was prone to saturation and required time to regenerate.
Shawcity achieved ISO 9001:2008 accreditation, recognising its commitment to quality management, consistent processes and delivering reliable products and services to customers.
Shawcity announced a new channel partnership with Sensidyne, broadening its air quality and dust-monitoring range.
Shawcity was acquired by Ion Science, a UK-based PID manufacturer, strengthening its market position while remaining independent. The company continued to work with multiple manufacturers, with Neil O’Regan appointed as Managing Director.
Shawcity partnered with Gas Data to introduce portable technology for ground-gas and landfill applications.
Shawcity partnered with City Technology to offer more than 300 OEM gas sensors and relocated to a purpose-built facility in Watchfield, supporting continued business growth.
New partnerships with Svantek and GDS Technologies expanded the Shawcity portfolio to include sound, noise and vibration instrumentation, along with advanced gas-detection control panels.
A new partnership with Gas Clip Technologies introduced portable four-gas detection equipment offering long battery life and 12-month calibration intervals.
Shawcity achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, selected SpecialEffect as its chosen charity and took responsibility for health and safety at the local Faringdon town music festival.
Shawcity strengthened its position through British Safety Council and BSIF membership, RSSS certification and an OHD partnership introducing CNP quantitative fit testing to the UK. Community support continued through local rugby club sponsorship.
A new channel partnership with HAVi Technologies enabled Shawcity to offer innovative tool-vibration timer technology designed to help prevent hand-arm vibration syndrome.
Shawcity joined the European section of the International Society for Respiratory Protection, supporting professionals working across respiratory protection and face fit testing.
Shawcity announced a new channel partnership with Crowcon, expanding both its portable and fixed gas-detection product ranges.
Blackline Safety joined the Shawcity portfolio, while SafeContractor accreditation reinforced the company’s expertise in fixed gas detection.
Shawcity joined Hive Technologies Group alongside Ion Science and Analox, achieved ISO 45001:2018 certification and expanded its air quality portfolio through partnerships with Trolex and Aeroqual.
Shawcity expanded into a second Watchfield premises, strengthened its gas-detection range with Dräger and Uniphos, and introduced a Chromium-6 testing solution through a partnership with MatInspired.
Shawcity achieved ISO 14001:2015 accreditation for its environmental management system and began supporting grassroots sport through sponsorship of Challow and Childrey FC.
Shawcity marked 50 years while expanding its fixed gas solutions through new partnerships with MSA Safety and introducing refrigerant monitoring technology from MSA Bacharach.

UK Sales Manager
Based in Lancashire, Chris looks after our customers in the North of England, northern Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Business Development Manager
Abby is our BDM and looks after our customers across the South of England based in Oxfordshire.
National Key Account Manager
Based in Shawcity Office, James provides a technical insight into portable gas detection and Particulate Matter detection. James is the main conduit for external sales and internal sales teams, as well as offering technical support to customers.
Sensor Account Controller
Based in the Shawcity Office, Gavin provides a sales contact for all sensor enquiries. This includes worldwide coverage for both sales and queries.
Technical Sales Specialist For Fixed Systems
Based in the Shawcity office, Jenny’s role provides product and technical support . She can also assist in the selection of application-specific systems.
Managing Director
Neil ensures Shawcity continues to provide the high level of customer service that Shawcity is renowned for in the marketplace, as well as bringing new technology into the UK and Ireland to enable our customers to achieve the highest level of monitoring and measuring solutions.
Director of Marketing & Communications
Tracy has overall responsibility for Shawcity’s marketing and communications strategies and oversees all aspects of brand management, image, product/service promotion and market research.
Director of Fixed Systems
Based at the Shawcity office, Nathan oversees all aspects of Fixed Gas Detection nationwide and works closely with our Product Sales Managers and our site team to ensure projects are delivered exactly to specification and client requirements.
Director of Sales
Elliot brings deep sector knowledge, strong customer focus and a proven track record in sales leadership. Having previously spent five years with Shawcity as Sales Area Manager for the UK Southeast, Elliot went on to further develop his career at Ion Science, leading global sales and becoming Head of Instrumentation.
Customer Support Manager
Rose manages the Customer Support Team for the Sales, Service and Hires departments. She joined the company in an Internal Sales Support role and has since developed an in-depth knowledge of the company and our customers.

Based in Lancashire, Chris looks after our customers in the North of England, northern Wales, Scotland and Ireland. He has a passion for mountaineering, photography, making short films and snowboarding.

Abby is our BDM based in Wiltshire and looks after our customers across the South of England.
Abby comes from a technical and customer success background, specialising in selling products and software solutions.
In her spare time, Abby enjoys spending time with family and friends, visiting museums, and eating out.

Based in the Shawcity office, Jenny’s role provides product and technical support . She can also assist in the selection of application-specific systems.
Jenny joined Shawcity with over 20 years of related experience in gas detection, gas and particulate analysis and sample transfer.

Neil ensures Shawcity continues to provide the high level of customer service that Shawcity is renowned for in the marketplace, as well as bringing new technology into the UK and Ireland to enable our customers to achieve the highest level of monitoring and measuring solutions.
He joined the Shawcity team in 2008 from Ion Science Ltd (Head Office) and is responsible for developing both the business in terms of bottom line net profits and the team through personal development. Neil is focused on creating a work environment which promotes self-development and success.
Neil has a busy family life, is a keen golfer and an ambassador for the charity SpecialEffect, whose mission is to achieve inclusion, raised self-esteem and rehabilitation by enabling anyone, regardless of any kind of physical limitation or disability, to be able to use video gaming and leisure technology.
He says: "When I visited the SpecialEffect offices, I truly understood what a difference they actually make. The charity is motivational and inspiring and I’m very proud to be an ambassador alongside such an incredible group of people."

Director of Marketing & Communications
Tracy has overall responsibility for Shawcity’s marketing and communications strategies and oversees all aspects of brand management, image, product/service promotion and market research.
An art school graduate and former graphic designer and creative studio manager, Tracy moved over to the marketing industry and gained a CIM Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing, as well as the Marketing Week Mini MBA.
With 20+ years' experience across online and offline marketing, Tracy has a broad range of knowledge gained from previous experience spanning industries including motorsport, finance and education, with secondment positions undertaken across Europe.
Director of Fixed Systems
Nathan joined Shawcity with over 20 years’ experience within the electronic security industry. Nathan has a vast array of experience and qualifications in site installation and maintenance, as well as sales.
Based at the Shawcity office, Nathan oversees all aspects of Fixed Gas Detection nationwide and works closely with our Product Specialist Managers and our site team to ensure projects are delivered exactly to specification and client requirements.
In his spare time Nathan has a number of varied interests including photography, VWs and is a keen supporter of Liverpool FC.

Customer Support Manager
Rose joined the company in 2014 as Internal Sales Support and has since worked in various roles within the business, developing an in-depth knowledge of all areas of the company and our customers. She is currently the Customer Support Team Leader for the Service, Hires and City Technology Gas Sensor departments.
Outside of work and spending time with friends and family, Rose loves to read and is always on the hunt for her next book!
