Shawcity Celebrates 50 Years of Innovation and Excellence

Shawcity Limited marks its 50th anniversary in 2026 with a year of special customer-focused activities and a celebration of its journey as a pioneer in modern workplace gas detection across the UK and Ireland. The company will officially celebrate the milestone on 16 August 2026.

Founded by husband-and-wife team David and Sheila Chapman, Shawcity began as a family-run business operating from a small industrial unit near Oxford. With a commitment to advancing global safety technology, the company rapidly grew its national reputation. In 2008, Shawcity was acquired by Ion Science Limited, a leading manufacturer of photoionisation detection (PID) technology based near Cambridge, strengthening its route to market and expanding its capabilities.

Following the acquisition, Shawcity retained its autonomy within the industry and continued to partner with a broad portfolio of specialist manufacturers while also relocating to purpose-built premises to support its growing operations.

Over the past five decades, Shawcity has supported tens of thousands of customers while maintaining its position as an industry leader. Today, with a 35‑strong team, the company continues to deliver the latest health and safety, occupational hygiene, and environmental monitoring solutions to organisations ranging from FTSE 100 companies and household names to specialist SMEs across the UK and Ireland.

Key recent milestones include joining the Hive Technologies Group in 2023 - alongside Ion Science Limited and Analox Group - and expanding into a second premises in 2024. Shawcity’s long-standing support for local community initiatives and charitable causes remains a core part of its identity.
